Latex Gloves Vs. Non- Latex Gloves

Latex Gloves

Latex gloves are natural material, made out of rubber. The primary reason people would choose an alternative to latex is because many people suffer from latex allergies. These gloves contain natural rubber latex and may cause allergic reactions in some individuals.

Latex is a biodegradable material and is still the most elastic, flexible and form fitting material for gloves.  Elasticity is one of the key characteristics of latex making it ideal material for disposable gloves. They are more elastic than nitrile gloves and feature better puncture resistance. This gives comfort making these gloves perfect for medical, auto repair and food service applications.

Non- Latex Gloves

Non-latex gloves are often made from nitrile or vinyl, making them safe for people who have latex allergies. Due to many people now being allergic to latex, we have a range of non-latex gloves. They are often used in medical & manufacturing professions.

Nitrile gloves are made out of a synthetic rubber, and are an ideal alternative when latex allergies are of concern. They have a longer shelf life than latex glove and are the superior glove when it comes to puncture resistance, often referred to as “medical grade.”

Nitrile is three times more resistant to punctures than latex, however, once the glove is punctured it will tear completely. However, creating a noticeable tear ensures that the wearer replaces the gloves and their hands remain protected.

Vinyl is a synthetic, non-bio-degradable material. Since vinyl gloves are synthetic and non-biodegradable, that’s why they have a longer shelf life than latex gloves which often start to break down over time. Like latex, vinyl gloves come in several thicknesses with the options of powdered or non-powdered. They are a popular choice for the food industry and situations where high levels of durability and protection are less of a priority.
